THE REINCARNATIONIST by M. J. Rose

There was a movie that came out many years ago starring Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson called "Dead Again." I could not get that movie out of my head while reading THE REINCARNATIONIST. For those of you that really enjoy fast-paced novels of intrigue and suspense, you will probably like this book.

Archaeologists uncover the tomb of one of the last Vestal Virgins in Rome and an artifact in the tomb may hold the key to reincarnation. Many individuals are desperate to get their hands on the artifact and the race to possess it is the focus of the plot. Several of the characters in the novel experience spontaneous past-life regressions, so the story encompasses not only the present but also ancient Rome and the mid-1800s.

I found this book to be a very enjoyable read. However, if you are a reader who enjoys tidy endings, you may be a bit frustrated. I felt as irritated as I did with the final episode of the SOPRANOS. I needed more! I couldn't believe the story ended where it did. Still, it was a fairly satisfying book.

I've been hoping someone would post a review of this book. :-) I have enjoyed the two M.J. Rose's Butterfield Institute series books that I've read (I'm behind a book in the series still), and so was curious how her latest book would turn out. Especially because of the subject matter. I am glad to hear it is worth reading. Tidy endings aren't necessary for me as long as they make sense for the book. I guess I'll have to see where this book falls in that regard. :-)

Oh, that sounds fantastic. Thanks, Amy! I'll add the title to my wish list. I'm like Wendy in that an ending doesn't necessarily have to be perfectly wrapped up. Sometimes, I'll just fill in the blanks with my own imagination; it's kind of nice that way - you choose the ending. :)
